Spiced Latte - Part One

I like my hot drinks. I like a coffee first thing in the morning, a tea mid morning and a cocoa in the evening, in fact, I am like many people and if I am not careful I can end up having half a dozen coffees in a day. So as autumn gets a hold on us here in the Adelaide hills and the ice cube trays take a break for the year I have used my newfound interest in infusions to create a new beverage, a spiced latte.

I began experimenting with this after I bought a turmeric latte mix from the supermarket and found it very irritating on the throat, quite peppery and overpowering, not what I was after, I was looking for something warm and soothing, aromatic and delicious, so I trundled off to the spice cupboard and this is what I came up with.

Cookie House Spiced Latte

⅛ teaspoon turmeric

⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/16 teaspoon ground ginger

1 teaspoon maple syrup

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Put all of these into a small pot, add half a cup of almond milk (or whichever milk you prefer) and half a cup of water, heat very slowly, stirring often, until pleasantly warm. Pour into a cup, grate some fresh nutmeg over the top, now, STOP! Lean against the bench, take a good long inhalation, this power of this drink is mostly olfactory. Mmmmm! Okay, go ahead, you can drink now.
